Why Media/PR?

My enthusiasm for media quickly progressed into a passion once I decided to choose the subject for my GCSE's. In the years that I studied the subject, I realised not only was I exceptionally good at it, by achieving high grades in assignments but I really enjoyed it too. My motivation and commitment to the subject led me to continue to study it for my A-levels. I chose to study Media in higher education but wanted to focus on a specific sector, PR was definitely the perfect choice. PR is the persuasion of business and  I find it fascinating how beneficial relationships are between organisations and their publics.

Skills

I make sure I always live up to a challenge by working hard and paying attention to detail by having a direct role on production work. In recent media projects, I regularly manage social media accounts and create campaign proposals to help build brand awareness. Working on various projects has allowed me to not only manage my time efficiently, but to establish various skills in communication with the public which is a prominent skill needed in PR.

Background Info

Hello! My name's Kyra Swaby and I have recently graduated at Birmingham City University studying Media and Communications PR with a First Class Degree. I am a very well organised individual and have a thorough and precise approach to projects which has yielded excellent results. I am an enthusiastic and forward thinking person who likes to motivate others by setting a good example myself as I thrive on taking the lead in order to ensure a positive conclusion.

Personal Hobbies

Vlogging has become such a new trend which essentially involves conventional video creation and sharing. I enjoy creating and editing personal vlogs, being able to speak to a camera and express feelings and showcase what you get up too is what I find amusing. Editing is therapeutic to me, just being able to sit and create what I like, whether its special effects or adding specific sounds. I love how now Vlogging is now being considered as a sustainable business model trend within the industry.

Event planning and creation is another hobby of mine, I like the process of it and then finally seeing the end result. Helping to organise events such as birthday parties, small gatherings and meetings are part of what I enjoy doing.

My Future In PR

Working in the PR industry has been a goal of mine for a long time now, I would like to continue gaining as much experience as possible by working for a PR agency. I'm very excited to start my career in PR as I know the opportunities and experiences are endless. I want to work my way up in the industry whilst learning from others and expanding my knowledge.

Top 5 things I love about PR

Making a difference

I enjoy the fast-paced nature of the industry and the ability to create campaigns that can  make a difference, whether it's changing behaviours and perceptions or achieving business goals made by clients.

1.

How the industry evolves

PR is constantly evolving and quickly. This means our knowledge and skills are  growing - learning new things everyday is always a reward.

2.

Creativity

The ability to have creative freedom is something I find extremely exciting - there are no boundaries when it comes to creativity. The feeling of when an idea comes to life is very rewarding.

3.

The relationships

PR provides opportunities to build relationships with people, whether they are on your team, within the industry or your client - getting to know people develop interpersonal skills.

4.

The Variety

There are different types of PR roles. In PR you are always working on multiple projects which may require different roles - no days are going to be exactly the same.

5.

"Everyday is a new day to change your life"
